When Louisville City FC players and coaches took the stage at Headliners Music Hall Tuesday night, their fans serenaded them by chanting, "We are the champions!"
Five days after winning the franchise's second-straight USL Cup, about 200 people packed into the music venue to continue the party.
They took pictures with the trophy, shouted "C'mon City," and listened as players, coaches and front office staff thanked them for their support. The team reminisced on their successful season.
"I can't say enough about this group," said forward Luke Spencer, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 championship win against Phoenix Rising FC. "It's truly a season to remember."

Other speakers included team president Brad Estes, players George Davis IV, Brian Ownby and Paolo DelPiccolo, and coach John Hackworth. Hackworth announced he would follow through on a promise to get a tattoo if they won.
"I am not a tattoo guy. I am now," he said, as the crowd erupted with shouts and laughs.
As the celebration concluded, fans began chanting, "We want three."
Others, more optimistically, added, "more."

David Scott, an Ireland native who has been a season-ticket holder since the team began play in 2015, stood toward the back of the venue, wearing a Louisville jersey covered in autographs.
He called the win "wonderful." Then he was asked about what he was going to do until next season begins.
"I'll watch lots of European soccer in between," Scott said.
Mariam Habil was there with her family, including her 5 1/2-year-old son, who is a big fan of the team.
While she was talking, he dragged her toward the stage. "He wants to take a picture with the team," Habil said.
